Background

The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics is pleased to advertise one position for the role of Postdoctoral Research Fellow, as part of the ‘E-COOL' (A Holistic Approach for Electric Motor Cooling) project funded by the European Innovation Council. The role's main tasks are: (i) to perform molecular dynamics/mesoscale simulations predicting the rheology of non-Newtonian heat-transfer liquids, (ii) to create property databases for incorporation in a Machine-Learning algorithm for the optimisation of liquid chemical composition.

Responsibilities

He or she will work closely with the principal investigator to ensure project deliverables and milestones are met in a timely manner, interact with the partners of the consortium to ensure smooth execution of inter-depending tasks, as well as play a role in raising the national and international profile of The Team by publishing articles in international journals and attending international conferences and workshops. The successful candidate will work closely with two additional Fellows recruited in the frame of ECOOL.

Person Specification

The successful candidate must hold a PhD in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or relevant discipline. Expertise in molecular-dynamics and coarse-grained simulations using in-house codes or open-source software (e.g. LAMMPS) is a prerequisite. Research on non- Newtonian flows and rheology in the candidate's academic track record will be considered favourably along with a strong publications' record.
