Research Staff and Postdoctoral Positions in Upstream Petroleum Engineering Available Competitive Tax-free Salary

KAUST is a graduate university located near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Staff researchers or postdocs are sought with experience in physics, chemistry, thermodynamics, interfacial science, geomechanics, reservoir engineering, applied mathematics, signal processing, and petroleum engineering. Ideal candidates will have experience in a subset of:

• Reservoir engineering, multiphase flow in porous media at different scales, physics of fluid-fluid and fluid-solid interfaces, fluid displacement mechanisms, and rock wettability and its alteration.
• Creation of massive hydrofractures in mudstones (shales) by any means, development of space-filling fractures and microfractures, improvements of gas (and oil) well performance.
• Evaluation of massive real-time data streams from field operations, verification of data quality, rejection of outliers; development of heuristic/mechanistic algorithms of expected system performance. Field surveillance.
• Evaluation of massive production/injection field data sets, prediction of long-term well performance.
• If you are strong in Item 2 and know something about Items 3 and 4, then, with your help we want to look at natural gas (biogenic and thermal) stranded in shallow subsurface around the world, but especially in Africa, and develop low-cost methods of producing this gas to supply fuel to local people and help them preserve their ecosystems.

The compensation package includes: competitive tax-free salary, health care (medical and dental) for you and your eligible dependents, and 20 days annual vacation. You may also be eligible for additional benefits.

Postdoc appointments are for one year and may be renewed up to three years based on performance. Research staff appointments are on a fixed-term basis.
