The position:
CSIRO Agriculture Flagship currently has a Postdoctoral Fellowship opportunity that will help launch your career and provide you experience that will enhance your career prospects.
In this role you will examine how natural variation in genes controlling the timing of flowering has been used to tailor the life cycle of wheat crops to suit different Australian growing regions and climates.
Specifically you will:
• Under the direction of senior research scientists, carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes;
• Perform association analyses to link genotypic variation with different flowering behaviours of Australian wheat cultivars;
• Manage and update databases of wheat pedigrees and genotype information;
• Interact with industry stakeholders;
• Produce high quality scientific papers suitable for publication in quality journals, for client reports and granting of patents;
• Contribute to the development of innovative concepts and ideas for further research.
Location: Black Mountain, ACT
To be considered you will hold a PhD (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in Agricultural research, Plant Biology, Genetics, or a related discipline.
You will also have:
• Demonstrated proficiency with statistical tools, including mixed model methods;
• Proficiency with database software, such as Microsoft Access;
• An ability to communicate with a diverse audience including researchers, plant breeders and wheat growers;
• The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research team, plus the motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research;
• A record of science innovation and creativity, plus the ability & willingness to incorporate novel ideas and approaches into scientific investigations.
Owing to terms of the fellowship, candidates must not have more than 3 years of relevant Postdoctoral experience.
