Job Description
The National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) has an opening for a postdoctoral Research Scholar to work in the research area of tropospheric chemistry modeling and analysis in support of NASA’s Earth Science programs. The successful candidate will work with NIA and NASA researchers on one or more research topics related to chemical transport of tropospheric trace gases and aerosols.
The areas of interest within the research team include:
• Evaluation of transport and deposition processes in NASA-supported models using atmospheric radionuclide tracers.
• Analysis of NASA's airborne and satellite data sets of tropospheric trace gases, aerosol, and clouds.
• Quantification of the radiative effects of clouds on tropospheric composition and chemistry.
• Assessment of the impact of North American anthropogenic pollution on aerosols over the North Atlantic.
Requirements:
• PhD degree or equivalent in Atmospheric Sciences or closely related fields.
• Demonstrated research experience in using atmospheric transport and/or chemistry models to interpret observational data of tropospheric chemistry.
• Proficient in the Interactive Data Language (IDL), and skilled at data visualization.
• Excellent oral and writing communication skills.
Desired skills:
• Familiarity with North American pollution outflow to the North Atlantic.
• Experience in using radionuclide tracers to study atmospheric transport.
Interested candidates should apply via NIA’s career opportunities site located at www.nianet.org under the ‘About NIA’ tab. Please include a letter of introduction, resume, and the names and contact information of three current references. To be considered for this position, applications must be received on or before 02/13/2015.
NIA, located near NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, is a non-profit research and graduate education institute created to perform aerospace and atmospheric research, develop new technologies for the nation, and help inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. Additional information about NIA and its research programs is available at www.nianet.org.
NIA ranked 12th in Top 50 Best Non-Profit Companies to work for in the U.S.!
