BIOPHYSICIST/BIOMEDICAL ENGINEER IN FUNCTIONAL MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING

Systems Neuroscience is a major focus of the Ruhr University Bochum. The imaging center of the Ruhr University Bochum conducts neurophysiological studies by means of 7-Tesla magnet resonance imaging (MRI) in rodents and birds. Applications are requested for the position of a biophysicist/biomedical engineer who will implement and develop fMRI and spectroscopy methods in awake small animals and support ongoing research in memory and cognition, neurodegenerative disorders and brain function. The biophysicist/biomedical engineer will be responsible for the maintenance of a core (small animal) imaging facility that supports key research consortia such as the SFB 874 and the FOR1581, as well as neuroscientists of the Research Department of Neuroscience.

The candidate should have a doctoral degree (Ph.D, M.D/Ph.D or equivalent) and training in MR physics or an appropriate area of biomedical engineering, along with research experience in high-field systems, including pulse programming and image processing. Prior experience with Bruker scanners, the Linux-based software ParaVision, FSL, SPM and/or MatLab software would be an advantage. Linux programming knowledge is highly desirable.

Fluent English is required. The position will initially be funded for 2 years (German salary scale TV-L E13). The position will be available from November 2014.
