摘要:

Post-Doctoral Position (100%) on the Mechano-Biology of the Intervertebral Disc (18 month funded by SNSF)

We are seeking for the Tissue and Organ Mechanobiology Group a post-doc researcher who is trained in molecular biology and biomedical engineering starting 1 September 2014. The project investigates on the mechanobiology of the intervertebral disc using a novel design of a two-degree-of-freedom bioreactor (see also Chan et al (2013) Region Specific Response of Intervertebral Disc Cells to Complex Dynamic Loading: An Organ Culture Study Using a Dynamic Torsion-Compression Bioreactor. PLoS ONE 8(8):e72489).
The successful candidate will have a strong cross-disciplinary background in molecular biology (real-time RT-PCR, Western blot, immune-staining, confocal microscopy, histology techniques of tissue sections, [classical & plastic embedded or paraffin]) but will ideally also have experience in biomechanics and engineering. Previous experience in intervertebral disc research or similar tissue such as cartilage or bone is highly warranted. Additional programming experience in MatLab or Labview and a basic understanding of machine design is another strong asset of the candidate. You will be working in our small team, which is composed of molecular biologist (me), 2 PhD candidates (nano scientist and biomedical engineer), a lab technician and 1-2 master students. Your duties will also be to assist in teaching of the Biomedical Engineering Master Program during the Winter Semester (5% work load).
The Institute for Surgical Technologies & Biomechanics is a well-established Institution in the field of Mechano-Biology and is embedded into the Medical Faculty of the University of Bern.
The salary is based on the guidelines of the University of Bern and the Budget of the Swiss National Science Foundation.
