The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) is one of the world’s most influential cancer research institutes. Our mission is to make the discoveries that defeat cancer. We have a long and distinguished history of research with a major impact on the outcome for cancer patients. Our unique partnership with The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust (RMH) makes us the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, performing high quality original basic research and translational studies. Under the leadership of Chief Executive Professor Alan Ashworth FRS, we are committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best minds in the world. The ICR was ranked as the UK’s top academic research centre in the 2008 Higher Education Funding Council Research Assessment Exercise. Based on our publication record, citations and impact we rank among the world’s leading cancer research centres.
We seek to appoint a Postdoctoral Training Fellow in the Gastrointestinal Cancer Biology and Genomics Team led by Dr. Nicola Valeri. Dr. Valeri’s lab aims to discover novel biomarkers and novel therapeutic targets in gastrointestinal malignancies with a special focus on colorectal and gastro-oesophageal cancers. The successful applicant will use a combination of high-throughput in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo functional genomics approaches to identify coding and non-coding genes involved in gastrointestinal cancer progression that may be exploited for drug treatment. The successful applicant will enjoy working in the interdisciplinary fields and collaborating with our internal and external biology, clinical, pathology and computational biology collaborators. The post holder will excel in coordinating between programming and exploring medical research areas through interacting with these collaborations, be a fast learner, and motivated to explore new scientific subjects.
This is an ideal opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic scientist to join a dynamic research team with excellent collaborators and facilities at a highly recognised institute.
Candidates should possess a PhD in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics or other relevant discipline; have a strong track record of high quality biomedical research, an excellent publication record and at least two first author publications.
Appointment will be on a Fixed Term Contract for up to 3 years in the first instance, with a salary in the range of £28,425 – £40,628 p.a. inclusive. Starting salary will be based on previous postdoctoral experience.
