Postdoctoral Fellow in Population Genetics and Molecular Evolution : Aarhus, Denmark

The Section for Crop Genetics and Biotechnology is seeking a creative, talented and motivated Postdoctoral Fellow in the fields of Population genetics and Molecular evolution with a focus on grasses. The ideal candidate will have an interdisciplinary training with strong bioinformatics background and experience with Population genetics and Molecular evolution. The position is open for 10 months.

The successful candidate will develop a strong Population genetics and Molecular evolution research program, which aims to provide insights into the genetic and developmental origins of complex traits, to understand the mechanisms underlying the development of genetic variance in outbreeding grass populations under selection.

We seek applicants that enthusiastically will contribute to a climate that embraces both excellence and diversity, and who pursue research that aims for significant conceptual integration across traditional disciplinary boundaries.

Qualifications and competences

  • A PhD degree in Molecular genetics, Quantitative genetics, Biology, Evolutionary biology, or related interdisciplinary fields
  • Documented experience in next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics
  • Experience in Population Genetics and Molecular Evolution
  • Experience in analysis of large-scale genotyping-by-sequencing datasets derived from next-generation sequencing platforms
  • Knowledge of programming languages, e.g. Python, Perl, C
  • Preferably experience in genome-wide association studies
  • Good writing and communication skills, including preparation of manuscripts and the ability to explain complex data to non-experts, are required
  • Ability to work in networks involving universities and industrial partners

Place of work
The Section for Crop Genetics and Biotechnology possesses state-of-the-art equipment and facilities for undertaking the relevant research, and is a major center for research and education in molecular genetics, genetics, genomics, bioinformatics and next-generation sequencing and genomic selection in plants. The Section for Crop Genetics and Biotechnology is part of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics and is located at the AU Flakkebjerg campus (for the locations of the department see http://mbg.au.dk/en/contact/how-to-find-the-department/). The section provides a very dynamic and internationally orientated environment with strong collaborations with relevant industrial partners and with leading international research groups in the area.

Formalities and salary range
Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
