Postdoctoral Fellowship: Hematology, Immunology, Cancer Therapeutics : Columbus, OH, United States

Postdoctoral Fellowship: MSCs and HSCs
Hematology, Immunology, Cancer Therapeutics

A postdoctoral fellowship is available in the laboratory of Dr. Edwin Horwitz. Our research team studies mesenchymal stromal/stem Cells (MSCs) and hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) in bone marrow transplantation, cancer therapy, and regenerative medicine. Multiple projects are available within the following areas: developing applications of MSCs in hematopoietic cell transplantation; using modified MSCs as therapy for leukemia and solid tumors; understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms of HSC engraftment in the bone marrow niche; and novel applications of hematopoietic cell transplantation for genetic disorders. Mouse models, cell culture, and in vitro assays serve as systems in which to study the clinically-relevant effects and basic biologic mechanisms of action of MSCs and HSCs.

Responsibilities:
Expertise in cellular and molecular biology is essential and experience in immunology, hematology, and/or gene therapy techniques is preferred. The successful candidate will work under the mentorship of the principal investigator, but must incorporate self-directed research hypotheses and protocols, excellent technical, presentation, and communication skills as essential components of this position. The Fellow will be expected to prepare manuscripts (with mentorship) for publication in appropriate peer-reviewed journals, and to work toward the goal of becoming independent in his/her research effort and obtaining external research funding. Dr. Horwitz, as the mentor, will continually mentor the Fellow to develop his/her independent career.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience with rodent-based research
• Desire to pursue a career in biomedical research, and knowledge of the research process.
• Necessary technical skills in the appropriate area of research
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills …
