We seek three keen postdoctoral researchers in the areas of radiation-resistant materials, such as reduced activation oxide-dispersion strengthened steels, tungsten alloys and other refractory metals or zirconium alloys, to work within a large project on structural materials for fission and fusion power (http://mffp.materials.ox.ac.uk). You will have experience in appropriate applicable techniques – i.e. one or more of: small-scale mechanical testing; focussed-ion-beam machining; transmission electron microscopy and microanalysis; electron-backscattered diffraction; atom-probe tomography; advanced materials processing; materials modelling. 

Each post is available for 12 months only, starting as soon as possible, and preference will be given to candidates who (as well as satisfying the selection criteria) can also produce a realistic plan of original research which can be achieved within the term of appointment. We will encourage those appointed to apply for Research Fellowships (for example from the EPSRC) enabling them to continue their research beyond the end of the Programme Grant (30 September 2015). 

You will have a good first degree and have or be shortly to complete a Materials Science or closely related doctorate, demonstrate experience of the techniques described above, have evidence of a strong publication record commensurate with your career stage and the proven ability to identify research objectives and meet agreed deadlines. Self-motivation and flexibility are essential, as are excellent communication skills and the ability to work co-operatively within the group, as well as with collaborators.
