Job Description

Thank you for your interest. Please note, the purpose of this posting is to recruit for on-going and future positions.

Pay Rate: $34 hr. - $37.55 hr.

Join the forefront of groundbreaking research at theBeckman Research Institute of City of Hope, where we're changing lives and making a real difference in the fight against cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening illnesses. Our dedicated and compassionate faculty and staff are driven by a common mission: Contribute to innovative approaches in predicting, preventing, and curing diseases, shaping the future of medicine through cutting-edge research.

The laboratory of Dr. Heather McGee, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Departments of Radiation Oncology and Immuno-Oncology, is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Fellow with experience in immunology or tumor immunology. Dr. McGee leads an exciting and dynamic research group at the forefront of studies on the immune response to radiation.

The focus of the lab is to understand how radiation activates tissue resident immune cells in various tumor microenvironments. Their goals are to identify key molecular and immunologic pathways activated by radiation that can be targeted to enhance anti-tumor immunity and/or minimize normal tissue toxicity for gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies. In addition, we have discovered a novel immune-mediated mechanism that contributes to the development of early-onset colorectal cancer and are investigating the epigenetic and transcriptional regulation of this pathway.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a very motivated and ambitious scientist to thrive and obtain first-author publications and grants that will allow him or her to become an independent Principal Investigator in the future.

For more information on Dr. McGee’s research please visit here.

As a successful candidate, you will:

· Devise, plan, and contribute original ideas to basic science and translational projects focused on 1) immune response to radiation in the liver tumor microenvironment and 2) immune determinants of early-onset colorectal cancer.

· Work in close collaboration with other team members and both internal and external collaborators.

· Train and supervise junior scientists in the lab.

· Collect data to be used for lab meetings and grant applications

· Prepare manuscripts for publication with Dr. McGee.

· A Ph.D. degree in tumor immunology or immunology is required.

· Experience in tumor immunology (8-20 color flow cytometry, adoptive transfer experiments)

· Evidence of scientific rigor and excellence as documented by first author high-impact peer-reviewed publications.

· Previous experience working with tumor animal models (transgenic and knock-in reporter mice).

· Strong team player with excellent communication skills and fluency in English (both spoken and written).
