Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher – 5G Network System Level Simulation
Tyndall National Institute
LH-05b Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher – 5G Network System Level Simulation
Contract Type: Full Time/Fixed Term (24 months)
The Wireless Communications Laboratory at Tyndall National Institute in Dublin is advertising for the position of a Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher in 5G network simulation modelling for the ANDES project. The project is a collaboration between academic (Tyndall, UCC) and industrial partners (Analog Devices).
The successful candidate will develop a 5G system level simulator and carry out performance analysis of different cellular network deployments and evaluation of new wireless techniques and algorithms.
The post offers a superb opportunity for an ambitious individual to work collaboratively between academia and industry and across teams in Ireland and the US.
Tyndall's Wireless Communications Laboratory intends to grow to 50+ researchers based in Dublin by 2025. As part of this, follow-up opportunities within the lab may be available after the successful completion of the ANDES project, subject to performance.
Key Responsibilities
Develop a high-performance system-level 5G network simulator, including massive MIMO and small cell deployments, 3D radio channel modelling, and user traffic and mobility modelling.
Perform comprehensive simulation studies of different cellular network deployment scenarios.
Participate in the development and evaluation of new wireless techniques and algorithms.
Prepare and disseminate the findings through presentations and reports to internal and external stakeholders, contribution to white papers, and publications in leading journals and conferences.
Liaise with counterparts in Analog Devices to ensure that the project objectives and milestones are met in a timely manner. This will involve regular interactions through email, audio and video calls, and occasional travel for face-to-face meetings.
Manage the simulation software repository, and create documentation to allow researchers to access and use the simulator.
Participate in developing future research initiatives within the Tyndall research group.
Ensure all activities are compliant with the Tyndall Quality Management system.
Ensure all activities are compliant with the required Health and Safety standards.
Carry out any additional duties as may be reasonably required within the general scope and level of the post.
Essential Criteria
PhD in Wireless Communications, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience in developing cellular network system simulators, including 3D channel modelling, physical layer signal processing and multi-antenna techniques.
Very strong software programming skills, and able to independently learn to use new programming languages and software tools.
Ability to communicate and work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams from academia and industry.
Desirable Criteria
Evidence of creative skills/creativity
Highly skilled in mathematical modelling tools such as MATLAB, Julia and/or Python.
Experience in 5G NR and 3GPP channel models is highly desirable.
Experience in implementing radio ray-tracing calculations.
Familiarity with event-driven simulation.
Tyndall National institute has a proactive entrepreneurial culture and we welcome applications from candidates who possess entrepreneurial and creative skills/experience, including the creation of technology start-ups.
Appointment may be made on the IUA Scale for Senior Postdoctoral Researcher €50,540- €54,966 per annum. Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
Duration of contract is 12 months.
