Position Overview
Essential Job Duties
The person will lead research in the development and characterization of sustainable, renewable, and biodegradable bioproducts. The person will need to do literature reviews, design experiments, conduct experiments, analyze the results, communicate the results in oral and verbal presentations, and write peer reviewed papers on the project. They will need to be skilled in a chemical, chemical engineering or related lab. The person will need to manage a lab safely and mentor students. Additionally, this person will manage a USDA grant that is mainly extension. The person will research, design, and develop bioeconomy related experiments suitable for teaching purposes. The person will also be in charge of managing the project overall, making sure the deliverables are met.
Duties and Responsibilities Must be able to perform research in a chemistry/materials science lab. Must be able to manage a program involved in extension in order to teach the bioeconomy. Design experiments, perform biodegradation experiments, and perform chemical modifications of biomass. Perform chemical and physical characterization of raw materials and final products. Must be able to write reports. Must be able to develop scientific experiments for teaching and outreach. Must be able to communicate results. Must be able to create and present powerpoint presentations, create written reports, and create peer reviewed papers. Must be able to contribute to writing research proposals. Must be able to manage a lab and students. Must be able to lead effort to keep lab well-stocked, clean and safe. Must be able to mentor students, assisting them in designing experiments and analyzing results. Must be able to train students on techniques in the lab.
