Job Description
The Division Microrobotics and Control Engineering (Prof. Dr.-lng. habil. S. Fatikow), Department of Computing Science of the University of Oldenburg invites applications for a
Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d) Robot-based material handling at micro/nano scale
The position will start 01.10.2020. The position is full time (100%), pay rate E13 TV-L, and available for 3 years with the possibility of an extension. The position is suitable for part time work. The position serves the qualification of junior scientists and offers the opportunity to continue professional development.
Our team: Our Division's research activities are on robotic handling and automation at micro/nano scale. The research work covers a broad range of related topics, including a.o. microscopy (SEM, AFM, SMM and optical), robotic automation and control engineering, handling technologies for micro/nano scale materials, and robot-based nanofabrication. Several unique microrobotic setups for automated handling at micro/nano scale have been developed in the Division for different applications.
Your research focus: The most advanced setup in our Division is dedicated to material handling and characterization; it includes three nanopositioning robots (16 DoF in total, incl. goniometric module), a high-resolution image acquisition system, and a high-speed DSP-based piezo controller. The robots can carry tools for SPM, scanning probe lithography, and other applications. The setup is an open HW/SW platform and expandable with additional application-specific HW/SW components. Your work is closely linked to the use, maintenance and further development of this platform. Your research motivation and goals must be related to at least one of the following R&D fields:
Design and characterization of van der Waals heterostructures
Advanced scanning probe microscopy
Advanced scanning probe lithography
Micro-Nano Assembly
Your profile:
above-average academic university degree in engineering or natural sciences, preferably in robotics, control engineering or applied physics at diploma or master level
a PhD degree in engineering or natural sciences, preferably in robotics, control engineering or applied physics
extensive experience in at least one of the above-mentioned R&D fields
extensive experience in experimental lab setups, HW-SW interfacing and lab control software
experience in robotics and automation
experience in SEM, SMM, image processing, and MEMS technologies is desirable
strong dedication to follow your research motivation and implement your goals
ability to work both independently and within our interdisciplinary research team
engagement in teaching courses of the Department held in English and in German, incl. planning and conducting of tutorials as well as occasional lecturing
excellent command of English (spoken and written), C1 level or higher
good German language skills, B2 level or higher
We offer:
unique laboratory infrastructure for research in robotic handling at micro/nano scale
excellent opportunities to continue your personal and professional development
an experienced, internationally highly visible interdisciplinary team (12-15 professionals)
strong involvement in project cooperation with partners from industry and research
