A full-time postdoctoral research fellowship in Epidemiology, Genomics and Cancer Research is available starting as soon as possible. The fellow will work on a prospective cohort data of epidemiology, genomics and microbiomics of persistent high risk HPVinfection and cervical cancer, and the development of cervical cancer prevention research in Africa and the United States.
The post-doc is expected to contribute to study design, implementation, project management, data analysis, and manuscript development under the supervision of Drs. Clement Adebamowo, Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health and Dr. Sally Adebamowo, Assistant Professor in the Departments of Epidemiology, University of Maryland, Baltimore. The post-doc will work with multidisciplinary teams across several departments and institutes at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, other U.S. and international universities. The context of the research is an ongoing global effort to conduct genomics research and build capacity in Africa through several initiatives including the H3Africa initiative. The position will require international travel for project planning, study initiation and oversight.
Exciting scientific challenges and opportunities for career progression are available for a motivated, high quality candidate. Research activities will include analyses of complex genomics data, database development and management, project management, qualitative and quantitative research, systematic reviews, and modeling related to cancer, oncogenic virus infections and other NCDs and their impact, and writing of publications for peer-reviewed journals. Applicants should be experienced in one or more of these methodologies. Other tasks may include preparing study protocols, study design and implementation, oversight of junior researchers, presentation at national and international scientific meetings, and grant writing. There are opportunities to work on other relevant projects as well.
We are seeking candidates with a doctoral degree in epidemiology, nutrition, behavioral sciences, or related health field with substantive knowledge of cancer and genomics epidemiology. A strong quantitative background, ideally with SAS, R and genomics analyses programming skills is required; the ability to work independently and collaboratively; strong organizational and record keeping skills; fluent English writing and verbal skills; and inter-disciplinary attitude. Experience in field work and working in low- and middle-income countries a plus. The position is renewal annually based on satisfactory performance.
