Job Description
At the Department of Mathematical Sciences of the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology we conduct internationally successful research in a number of areas in theoretical and applied mathematics and mathematical statistics. The department is an important partner of other sciences and industrial projects. We make a significant contribution to the benefit of society by extensive education, and are continually looking for room for improvement of our efforts. The work environment is supportive, creative and international, with a steady flow of international guests.
We now seek a postdoc to the research group of Axel Målqvist. Målqvist’s research group in computational mathematics belongs to the Division of Applied Mathematics and Statistics. The focus is on the development and analysis of numerical methods for solving partial differential equations with rapidly varying data.
Job Assignments
Development, analysis, and implementation of numerical methods for solving partial differential equations with rapidly varying coefficients. The focus will be on problems with non-periodic and high contrast data. Applications such as composite materials and porous media flow are considered. The successful candidate will work on all aspects of the research including implementation of efficient solvers.
Qualifications
The successful candidate is expected to be at ease with collaborating with other scientists and to contribute in several parallel projects. Documented experience in development, analysis, and implementation of multiscale methods is highly advantageous. Large emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. Fluency in English is expected as well as experience at working in interdisciplinary teams.
Eligibility
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance. You should have achieved a doctoral degree by the application deadline to qualify for a position as postdoctoral researcher at the University of Gothenburg. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated in the advertisement, for example in numerical analysis, applied mathematics or computational science. Since a position as postdoctoral researcher aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application.
Assessment
Assessment criteria for employment as postdoctor are set in the Appointments Procedure for Teachers at the University of Gothenburg.
