Post-Doctoral Fellow Position in Climate and Data Sciences
Your mission :You will be involved in the BRIDGE-Discovery project “Measurement and Replication of Drone-Scale Atmospheric Turbulence in a Simulator of Autonomous Flight Environments (SAFE) for Drone Certification.” This project aims at understanding the turbulence in an urban environment and identifying how wind patterns can be better predicted to improve the safety of drone flights. Additionally, with the effects of climate change, we aim to identify how these patterns will evolve in the future.
Main duties and responsibilities include :
You will be ask to analyse dataset of meteorological variables (wind speed, temperature, etc.)
Determine the most relevant turbulent patterns and define how they can be used in a drone test facility at HES-SO Geneva
Develop new parameterizations for urban climate models using data-driven approaches
Perform climate simulations for urban areas
Your profile :
PhD in Earth, Climate or Environmental Sciences (or equivalent)
Demonstrated analytical skills and capabilities to conduct research in areas related to urban physics and handling of large-scale datasets
Strong knowledge in handling of large-scale datasets
Experience in programming languages (Python, Fortran, etc.)
We offer :
Significant financial resources and research infrastructure
Internationally very competitive salaries and benefits
EPFL is an equal opportunity employer
Start date :As soon as possible
Term of employment : Fixed-term (CDD)
