Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Genomic and Single Cell Methods in Recombination
Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, Roosevelt Drive, Headington, Oxford
Grade 7: £30,434 – £37,394 with a discretionary range to £40,847 p.a.
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Genomic and Single Cell Methods in Recombination in Professor Peter Donnelly’s group at the WTCHG.
The Donnelly Group researches a wide range of problems in biomedical genetics, including susceptibility to common diseases and infectious disease genomics, with a particular focus on meiotic recombination, a process fundamental in generating natural genetic variation and critical in ensuring proper chromosomal segregation, whose failure can lead to aneuploidy and pregnancy loss. With Oxford collaborators, the group has applied genomics to understanding recombination, identifying over 30,000 recombination hotspots in the human genome, characterising for the first time in any species a DNA sequence motif associated with hotspots, and identifying the protein PRDM9 as responsible for localising DNA double-stranded breaks to initiate recombination.
Professor Donnelly seeks to appoint an outstanding postdoctoral researcher to contribute to projects investigating recombination in human and model animal systems, applying and developing genome-wide methods, including single-cell methods, in a small lab team within a larger quantitative genomic analysis group.
You will have a PhD, significant research experience in molecular cell biology, human genetics, or a closely related field, and at least one first-author publication or equivalent in international-standard journals. You will be able to work as part of a team and independently and prioritise your own work, with excellent communication skills.
This position is fixed-term for 2 years initially and funded by a Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator Award to Professor Donnelly.
Please quote ref. 118672 on all correspondence. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.
