A postdoctoral position is available at the Scripps Research Institute on Jupiter, FL campus to study molecular and cellular aspects of neurotransmitter signaling in the nervous system focusing on unraveling function of newly identified molecules and connections. The laboratory is using multidisciplinary approach integrating behavioral characterization of genetic mouse models with live cell imaging, patch clamp electrophysiology, the use of optical sensors to investigate cellular signaling reactions and discovery of novel interactions by mass-spectrometry. We are looking for a highly-motivated and self-driven individual who wishes to work creatively in an independent setting. Successful candidates will have recently received a Ph.D. degree and have extensive research experience as evidenced by a strong publication record. In addition to basic research, postdoctoral scientist will have opportunities to engage in translational efforts developing and performing screens to identify small molecule compounds for the treatment of neuropsychiatric conditions in collaboration with the state of the art drug discovery facility at Scripps. Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable: (1) mouse genetic models: transgenic, knockout, reporter mice and/or viral mediated gene transfer, (2) analysis of cell signaling: protein-protein interactions, kinetics, regulation of activity and expression (3) use of optical reporter approaches: BRET, FRET, ratiometric calcium imaging (4) assessment of animal behavior. The laboratory also provides opportunities to learn these approaches.
