Job Description
POSITION: A new research project at the Laureate Institute for Brain Research (LIBR) is aimed at developing pharmacological functional MRI probes of interoception (understanding the body-brain connection) in anxiety and eating disorders. As part of this project, we are looking for an innovative postdoctoral candidate with a strong computational background who will play a key role in the development and application of advanced functional neuroimaging methods including the integration of arterial spin labeling (ASL) and BOLD fMRI with pharmacological probes of interoceptive awareness. Other analysis modalities include simultaneous fMRI & EEG, functional connectivity, volumetric MRI, and psychophysiology. Mentorship will be provided by a physician neuroscientist. The position offers excellent training opportunities in a dynamic, interactive, and multidisciplinary environment, with a diverse team of researchers that includes psychiatrists, psychologists, neuroscientists, and physicists as collaborators.
INSTITUTE: Located in Tulsa, Oklahoma (USA), LIBR is a privately funded non-profit clinical neuroscience research institute with the mission of reducing the suffering of psychiatric patients by leveraging leading talent and technology to discover novel therapies. The institute is attached to a major psychiatric hospital (Laureate Psychiatric Clinic & Hospital) and the candidate should be prepared to test and interact with a number of different clinical populations including patients with anxiety, depression, anorexia nervosa, and rare forms of brain injury. The institute houses a state-of-the-art neuroimaging research environment. The equipment consists of two 3-Tesla MRI scanners (GE Discover MR750; fully research dedicated) equipped with ASL pulse sequencing, a wide selection of receive-only coil arrays for imaging the human brain and spinal cord, a custom-developed real-time fMRI system, as well as the latest high-density 128-channel Brain Products MRI-compatible EEG system.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. in neuroscience or a related field is required. A successful applicant will be expected to actively contribute his or her own ideas and proposals, help develop research protocols, conduct fMRI experiments, analyze large datasets with potentially hundreds of subjects, write manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and present findings at scientific meetings. Applicants should have a solid foundation in fMRI data analysis, statistics, and computer programming. Expertise with Matlab, UNIX/Linux environments, and stimulus presentation software is preferred.
SALARY/BENEFITS: This is a full-time research position with multiple years of funding. Salary will be commensurate with the experience of the candidate. A full benefits package is available. International scholars are encouraged to apply.
HOW TO APPLY: Interested candidates should email a CV, a brief statement of long-term career goals, and contact information for 3 references to skhalsa@laureateinstitute.org
