Job Description
Along with its Industry partners, the University of Missouri has been awarded a major 3-year grant by the NIH for the development of an electrical system for detecting viable pathogens in suspensions. The position we seek to fill will play a key role in taking the current benchtop system to a viable commercial product. A start-up company has been formed and raised seed capital to commercialize this technology and recruited a seasoned start-up executive to lead this effort. The University has a development partnership with a number of experienced engineering firms for this commercialization. The most desired candidates for this position are scientific researchers interested in understanding and participating in translation research that will lead to commercial products. Roles / Responsibilities 1. Work with our industry partners to design and test our preliminary prototypes. Some of this work will require direct interaction with both the start-up company (ImpeDx Diagnostics), their personnel, as well as our other industrial partners. 2. Explore improved/alternative methodologies for the electrical detection of viable pathogens 3. Train and mentor junior research personnel 4. Assist on related projects at the University of Missouri Preferred Candidate Characteristics 1. PhD in Engineering/ Physics/ Physical Chemistry, with an expertise in electrical / electrochemical sensing or measurements. 2. Hands-on experience in building and/or maintaining electrical equipment The position can either be based directly at the company (ImpeDx Diagnostics in the Kansas City area) or at the academic partner (the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO), or split between the two organizations. |
