摘要:
Postdoctoral Positions in Synthetic and Molecular Biology : Okinawa, Japan

We are looking for two enthusiastic postdoctoral researchers interested in synthetic biology and spatio-temporal signaling/expression processes. Projects for these positions include the creation of novel modular biological functions, high-resolution microscopy, noise analysis, and spatio-temporal tracking and analysis of key regulators in cell compartments. Gene network engineering/experimental design will be performed in close collaboration with experts in mathematical modeling and computer science, creating an iterative feedback loop between predictions, simulations and experimental observations. Thus, applicants are expected to be able to work in groups, have excellent personal and communication skills, and a willingness to communicate research results to interdisciplinary audiences.

The successful candidates will actively participate by constructing network motifs and testing their in vivo expression, in E. coli and S. cerevisiae. They will also perform reliable tracking and analysis of key protein complexes in parallel systems biology projects. Thus, experience with general laboratory equipment, molecular biology techniques and fluorescence microscopy is essential. Successful candidates will also have experience in E. coli and/or S. cerevisiae, evidenced by publications, while experience with both organisms and mammalian cultures will be considered a plus. Appointed postdocs will also be expected to monitor laboratory operations (including laboratory safety compliance, library construction and optimal planning of supplies), keep organized records for the laboratory, and work actively with members and collaborators of the group.

Both postdoctoral researchers will join the Integrative Systems Biology Unit of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST), and will work under the supervision of Prof. Tatiana T. Marquez-Lago. OIST is a university with no departments, eliminating artificial barriers between people working in different fields. Currently, 50 Faculty members and a growing population of over 500 scientists, students, and research support staff are located in OIST facilities in Onna, Okinawa. English is the language of instruction and a large segment of the faculty and student population is international. Further details about the unit can be found on our website (https://groups.oist.jp/isbu/members).

Position: Postdoctoral Scholar, Integrative Systems Biology Unit
Location: Onna-son, Okinawa, Japan

Term:
The full-time positions are available at the start of 2015, with a negotiable start date. The initial contract will be extended for 12-18 months, with possible extensions up to 36 months, including the initial contract. All positions are subject to a 3-month probationary period.
