摘要:

Protein Engineering & Artificial Enzyme Evolution

  • We are looking for a candidate that is highly motivated to employ directed evolution to create novel enzymes. Our group uses methods of in vitro selection and evolution to generate de novo enzymes and to tailor existing enzymes to a wide variety of useful properties. We have established a general method to create enzymes from scratch – enzymes that have not been found in nature. Our approach enables us to search for enzymes in libraries of trillions of proteins variants in a single experiment (see publications below).
  • One objective of our research is to create enzymes as ‘designer catalysts’ for biomedical applications. We are also studying our new enzymes in detail and evolve them further to help elucidate basic principles of biocatalysis and protein evolution.
  • We are looking for an applicant with a Ph.D. and a solid expertise in molecular biology and biochemistry, excellent communication skills, a strong publication record and enthusiasm and motivation to do science in a collaborative environment. The candidate’s potential and ambition to obtain independent funding is highly valued.
  • Our lab is part of the highly interdisciplinary BioTechnology Institute at the University of Minnesota. The “U” is one of the largest research universities in the US, located in the heart of the vibrant Minneapolis-Saint Paul area, home to 3.4 Million people and urban center of the Land of Ten Thousand Lakes.
