We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join Dr. Wendy Walker’s research group at the Center of Excellence for Infectious Diseases, Paul L Foster School of Medicine, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso.

This individual will work on one or both of the following projects:

(1) Innate immunity and sepsis. Sepsis occurs when an overwhelming infection causes a systemic inflammatory response syndrome that is harmful to the host. We are exploring which innate immune pathways are helpful vs. harmful in the context of sepsis. We are also exploring how various physiological processes (such as circadian rhythms) influence sepsis pathogenesis.

(2) HIV Elite Control. We are investigating how a rare group of patients, HIV Elite Controllers, are able to naturally control the HIV virus. For this project, we will perform assays examining cellular resistance to HIV in primary cells isolated from these patients and identify rare gene alleles and/or transcriptional signatures associated with this phenotype.

The Postdoc should have a PhD in an area related to immunology, virology or biomedical sciences. We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude. Experience working with immunology assays, BSL-2 agents, animal models and/or human subjects are preferred, but not required. This is a great opportunity to be part of a funded lab at a growing research institution with a new medical school. TTUHSC El Paso has excellent facilities including core labs in histopathology, cytometry, genomics and proteomics.
