An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join a vibrant and expanding team with Dr Katarzyna Whysall’s laboratory researching the role of microRNAs in age-related loss of muscle mass and function. Specifically, we will analyse the role of carefully selected muscle-specific microRNAs in regulating processes related to muscle homeostasis and affected by ageing, such as muscle regeneration and myofibre atrophy. This project will utilise a combination of molecular biology and cell biology techniques as well as in vivo models and you are expected to have an established skill set that includes extensive experience in core techniques from these disciplines. You will be expected to publish your research in high quality journals and should have a track record that includes a peer-reviewed publication or a conference report.
You should have a PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or related discipline. You should be ambitious to further develop your expertise and broaden your skill base. Additional training in working with in vivo models, bioinformatics and imaging techniques are desirable and training will be given by local experts where required. This post is funded by a BBSRC research grant and is available for 3 years.
