*Location: various. The Research Assistants are not expected to take up residence in Florence.

Salary: The total net salary for the full duration will be in the range of 6,200 to 8,500 EUR.
Hours: approximately 25% of full-time for each country if the contract duration is about 11 months.

Job description:
National experts on trafficking are being recruited for the following seven countries: Belgium, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, and United Kingdom. Applications for more than one country case are welcome.

The tasks expected from the Research Assistants are as follows:

  • To conduct a case study on addressing demand in Trafficking in Human Beings in the domestic work sector
  • To participate at 1-2 project meetings (with expenses reimbursed by us)
  • To contribute to disseminating the project findings in the country of study

In the first phase, the experts will review the relevant academic literature and other documentation including media materials, NGO reports and policy texts, collect and analyse case law on cases of trafficking and other forms of extreme exploitation in domestic work (including past case law and developments in the field), and identify gaps in labour law and other relevant legislation that make trafficking in domestic work possible and profitable.

During a second phase, the experts will conduct interviews with relevant stakeholders including judicial authorities, lawyers, policy makers, NGOs, trade unions and victims of trafficking in the domestic work sector. The interviews will be transcribed and summary protocols will be prepared in English.

In phase 3, the experts will draft the respective country reports.

The Research Assistants are not expected to work at the EUI and take up residence in Florence.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Advanced PhD student or junior post-doctoral researcher
  • PhD in social sciences, preferably on trafficking

Desirable:

  • Publications track record in this field will be an asset.

Languages: An excellent level of written and spoken English (C2) as well as fluency in the language(s) of the country/ies concerned is required.
