We seek a highly skilled and motivated post-doctoral researcher (PhD/MD). You will be involved in full time vision research. 4 days of each week will be spent in developing a novel paediatric visual fields test under the guidance of Professor Tariq Aslam and Professor David Henson. The test uses computer games to engage children and maintain co-operation and will be developed with the aid of a professional programmer building on published feasibility studies. You will be expected to play a lead role in research and development of the device; organising and executing clinical studies, adapting and developing the fields test appropriately and analysing and writing up results under the direct supervision of lead investigators Tariq Aslam and David Henson and collaborators Cecilia Fenerty and Susmito Biswas. Approximately half of the applicant time will be spent in direct patient contact with vision testing, questionnaires etc., and the remainder in research activities working to improve and test the device.

Working within the newly built Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, you will be joining an active team of researchers and post graduate students in a highly active ophthalmic, optometric and visual science research environment.

You will have a background in some knowledge of visual psychophysics and visual fields testing. You should hold a PhD/MD in a relevant discipline, or will have completed your PhD/MD by the start date. You should have a track record of published research in a related subject and be a highly motivated, analytical, and inventive scientist who will flourish in a multi-disciplinary environment. You will be expected to present findings in journals and international, funded conferences.
