摘要:

Postdoctoral Researcher in Stem Cell Biology and Host Microbe Interactions in Drosophila : ithaca, NY, United States

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Nicolas Buchon at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY, USA), for a highly motivated candidate to study the regulation of Intestinal Stem Cell (ISC) activity in the gut of Drosophila and the impact of indigenous and pathogenic microbes on their behavior. The research project, funded by NYSTEM will use molecular and genetic approaches, coupled to genomics and in vivo imaging to identify key genes and pathways regulating gut homeostasis and its alteration by microbes. Using functional genetics and molecular manipulation of both Drosophila and relevant microbes, the project aims to 1- characterize the gene regulatory network that controls ISC activity and subsequent lineage in the gut, 2- understand the molecular dialogue between ISCs and the surrounding cellular environment (epithelium, visceral muscles etc.), 3- identify the microbial activities that alter ISC activity, both in physiological conditions or upon infection. This project is expected to contribute to the basic understanding of stem cell biology, mucosal immunity and host/microbe interactions. The studies are also likely to open new avenues for future research, with relevance to intestinal pathologies such as inflammatory disorders or cancer.

Skills and application: Candidates must have a Ph.D in molecular or cell biology, genetics, or a related biological discipline, be self-motivated, and have excellent communication and organizational skills. Solid molecular biology skills are necessary, and experience with, or strong interest in Drosophila genetics, stem cell biology, or microbiology are desirable. Applications from candidates should be sent by email to Dr. Nicolas Buchon at nicolas.buchon@cornell.edu. Please include a CV, statement of research, and details of three referees. The covering letter should include an explanation of how your qualifications and experience make you a good candidate for this position. Informal inquiries are welcome. Consideration of applications will begin immediately. The successful candidate will join a team of researchers committed to understand the biology of stem cells, both in the lab and on campus (http://www.stemcell.cornell.edu/). Cornell is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer committed to multicultural diversity.
