Job Ref: | 113360 |
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position available immediately for up to 6 months’ duration in UHV scanning tunnelling microscopy of perovskites. The postholder will take responsibility for the development and execution of experiments that involve ultra high vacuum (UHV) scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) of perovskite crystals and thin film materials such as SrTiO3, SrRuO3, BaTiO3, and the imaging of metal nanoparticles on the surfaces of these materials. This work will involve the use of a JEOL 4500s UHV-STM system equipped with Ar-ion sputtering facilities, LEED, K-cells, XPS, AES, UHV-SEM, and e-beam metal evaporation. Owing to the short nature of the contract (6 months) the postholder has to have proven experience in using the instruments described above, and also be familiar with perovskite crystal surface preparation procedures.
This is a short project funded by the EPSRC in the Surface Nanoscience research group in the Department of Materials.
You should have (by the start date) a good first degree and a PhD in a physical science area relevant to the project, as well as demonstrating skill in the areas described above. Preference will be given to candidates who both fulfil the selection criteria and are able to start as soon as possible.
Interviews currently planned for the week beginning 7 July 2014.
