澳大利亚联邦科学与工业研究组织招收生物化学博士后
OCE Postdoctoral Fellow- Biospectroscopy of Microbes : Werribee, Melbourne, Australia
The Position:
CSIRO offers PhD graduates an opportunity to launch their scientific careers through our Office of the Chief Executive (OCE) Postdoctoral Fellowships. Successful applicants will work with leaders in the field of science and receive personal development and learning opportunities.
Understanding the response and adaptations of microbes at a cellular level to environmental stress (e.g., temperature, pH, oxygen, nutrients, antimicrobials) are central to controlling the preservation of desirable microbes (e.g., probiotics for health), and the destruction of pathogenic bacteria and composition of microbial colonies (e.g., in food matrices). The stress response of microbes governs microbe survival, their genetic response and shapes microbial communities in various environments. The research will be in the area of biospectroscopy of microbes in foods. The project involves a direct collaboration with the Centre of Biospectroscopy at Monash. The post-doctoral fellow will be conducting experiments at CSIRO (Werribee) and Monash (Clayton).
Specifically you will:
- Design experiments to examine the cellular and physiological responses of microbes when exposed to processing stresses;
- Conduct research using biospectroscopic/synchrotron-based techniques (FTIR and Raman) to probe the response of microorganisms to processing stresses;
- Couple biospectroscopic analysis with molecular/microbial analysis to gain insights into the physiological responses of microorganisms to stress.
Location: Werribee, Victoria
Salary: AUD78K to AUD85K plus up to 15.4% superannuation (pension fund)
Tenure: 3 years
Reference: VIC14/01253
To be successful in this position you will need:
- A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as Chemistry/Biochemistry or equivalent;
- High level communication skills, publications, and the ability to work effectively in a team;
- Specialist knowledge in Infra-red and Raman spectroscopy;
- Demonstrated experience in Chemometrics;
- Knowledge and experience in spectroscopy of biological organisms;
- A history of professional and respectful behaviours and attitudes in a collaborative environment.;
- A record of science innovation.
The successful appointee must have completed, or will shortly complete, the requirements for a PhD degree in a relevant scientific discipline. Owing to terms of the fellowship, candidates must not have more than 3 years of relevant Postdoctoral experience.
