Job Description

Seattle Biomedical Research Institute (Seattle BioMed) was founded as an independent non-profit organization devoted to the research of global infectious disease. Seattle BioMed holds true to those roots today, having grown to include over 250 staff members who work collaboratively with one common goal: to eliminate the world’s most devastating infectious diseases through leadership in scientific discovery. Seattle BioMed is closely affiliated with the University of Washington, and benefits from the expertise of a number of key collaborations. Our research facility is located in the fast-developing South Lake Union “biotechnology hub” that is home to many research organizations on the forefront of life science research. In addition to an exciting work environment, Seattle BioMed offers a competitive benefits package.

Dr. Don Sodora is an Associate Professor at Seattle Biomedical Research Institute (Seattle BioMed). The Sodora Lab is focused on understanding HIV-induced pathogenesis and transmission. The laboratory utilizes both HIV infection of patients and SIV infection of different monkey models to achieve this goal.

A fully supported postdoctoral scientist position is currently available in the Sodora Lab. The successful candidate will be involved in studying one of two projects. Project #1 will assess the factors that contribute to mother-to-child transmission of HIV/SIV, focusing on the influence of vaccine responses and immune inflammation. Project #2 will evaluate the contribution of liver macrophages (Kupffer cells) as drivers of the immune activation and disease progression observed during HIV/SIV infection. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in Immunology. Additional expertise in Virology is an advantage. We are seeking applicants who are highly motivated, passionate, and innovative, who are not afraid to take risks and who thrive in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment. Seattle Biomed is a thriving research environment with an excellent group of postdoctoral researchers that engage in various activities organized by the PhD/MD Association (PMA).
