The Steroids Metabolism lab specializes in exploring how steroid metabolism and function influences human physiology and health using mass spectrometry applications. Our primary methods include liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, alongside studies involving human in vivo physiology, ex vivo, and in vitro model systems. Our group is dedicated in investigating the mechanisms that link steroids to human metabolic dysfunction and disease. Currently, our research focuses into understanding the differential impact of androgens on metabolic function in men and women.
We are looking for a motivated researcher with a background in analytical chemistry, endocrinology or a related field. The candidate should have a record of accomplishments indicating the ability to perform analysis, visualisation, and dissemination of multi-metabolite data produced by mass spectrometry method developments and measurements from biological samples.
Applicants must have a PhD in analytical biochemistry, metabolism, molecular biology or other any other related discipline with at least one first author publication in a respected journal. Previous experience in metabolism and metabolomics (steroid and endocrinology), biochemical techniques, including in vitro enzyme assays, proteomics would be an advantage. The successful candidate will work in a focused and organized manner to produce independent research, deliver the scientific aims of the project and aid in the submission of publications to referred journals. They will supervise students, interact with computational scientists embedded in the group and contribute to research group outputs by writing abstracts, conference presentations, original research manuscripts, review articles and contribute to grant proposals.
Final appointment will be subject to pre-employment screening
This role qualifies for endorsement by UKRI for a UK Global Talent Visa, for which the successful applicant is likely to be eligible to apply.
