Dr. Chris Serenari, Assistant Professor in Human Dimensions of Wildlife in the Department of Biologyat Texas State University – San Marcos, is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral researcher (24-month appointment), starting Fall 2023. Applications will be accepted from early career scholars (≤ four years post Ph.D.). Preference will be given to those with skill in qualitative data collection and analysis, expertise in wildfire social science, and a track record of peer-review publication.

Dr. Serenari's labfocuses on applied and rigorous social science to improve wildlife governance, with emphasis on designs for the future. The post-doctoral researcher will serve as co-PI for a Joint Fire Science Program- funded study to investigate the socio-political antecedents of fire suppression spending costs and how wildlife agencies can help build wildfire- resilient communities through collaboration. Duties include conducting a literature review, interviews, and qualitative data analysis, as well as contributing to writing and disseminating research findings.

The candidate will also be expected to lead or assist with external grant proposal writing, study design and data collection, course instruction, science communication, peer-review publication, student mentoring, among other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in natural resource management or related field within last four years

Proficiency in qualitative research (e.g., interviews, coding)

Proficiency in writing and speaking the English language

Ability to lead collaborative conservation social science projects

Willingness to travel and present findings domestically or abroad

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in the study of wildfire governance

Experience in the study of wildlife governance

Track record of peer-reviewed publications

Proficiency in quantitative methods
