Job Description

The National Institute on Aging (NIA), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is recruiting for a postdoctoral position in the Section on Helicases and Genomic Integrity, Translational Gerontology Branch. The focus of our group is to investigate the functions of helicase enzymes defective in hereditary disorders displaying age-associated clinical features and/or cancer. The objective of this research is to understand the molecular and cellular roles of human DNA and RNA helicases in pathways that are important for the maintenance of genome integrity and cellular homeostasis. Genetic and biochemical approaches are used to characterize the roles of helicases in cellular nucleic acid metabolism through their catalytic functions and protein interactions. State-of-the art experimental approaches include the use of siRNA/CRISPR screens, pharmacologically active small molecules, single-molecule DNA fiber studies, live cell imaging by immunofluorescence confocal microscopy, protein biochemistry, and enzyme kinetic assays. Molecular therapies are tested in preclinical models for translational approaches.

Interested candidates must have a Ph.D. or M.D. with less than five years of postdoctoral experience and research experience in molecular biology, and training in mammalian cell culture techniques.
