The University of Otago's School of Pharmacy is the oldest in the country and prides itself on achieving excellence in pharmaceutical care. We aim for excellence in research and research informed teaching in pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacy and social pharmacy.

The School of Pharmacy offers a four-year undergraduate Bachelor of Pharmacy degree as well as various postgraduate clinical and social pharmacy qualifications and research degrees such as PhDs. The undergraduate degree enrols students from all regions of New Zealand and offers a number of international places.

Pharmacists play an important part in the health workforce by providing access to medicines, optimising their use, and ensuring the quality is consistently high. It is a skilled and important profession and graduates from the Otago School of Pharmacy credit their degree with developing strong practical and analytical skills, which form the backbone of their professional lives.

The role/Te mahi

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will be tasked with conducting drug preparation, data acquisition and analysis for the Health Research Council  funded study and development of rifampicin as a dry powder inhaler for tuberculosis.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be expected to: • Undertake administrative and practical tasks and conduct procedures to prepare inhalable rifampicin for a phase 1 clinical trial. • Undertake recruitment, data acquisition and analysis for a phase 1 (acceptability, pharmacokinetics and dose-finding) clinical trial of inhalable rifampicin in accordance with the study protocol. • Summarise research findings and publish results in peer-reviewed journals. • Generate clear and timely records of experimental work. • Understand the relevant scientific literature. • Communicate ideas and results with team members and externally. • Provide supervision and guidance to students.

Successful candidates will have: • PhD in pharmacy or clinical pharmacology. • Experience in preparation of inhalable drugs. • Ability to work in a group environment. • Organised and accurate approach to laboratory practices and meticulous record-keeping. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. • Ability to work both independently and follow instructions precisely. • Effective organisational and time management skills.

This position is full-time (1FTE), fixed term for 2 years (until 31 October 2024).

The position is available from 1 November 2022. The salary for this role is $78,960 per annum.
