Job Summary
The Department of Geography, GIS, and Sustainability and Earth and Atmospheric Sciences of the University of Northern Colorado seeks a candidate to fill a Postdoctoral Research Assistant position for research about STEM teaching and learning. We are an interdisciplinary team of Discipline-Based Education Researchers (DBER) from the Environmental and Geosciences who are investigation computerized analysis of students’ writing in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) courses to model students’ thinking.
Our NSF-funded research project seeks to develop resources for analyzing undergraduate learning in the Food-Energy-Water Nexus. The selected Research Assistant will participate in an NSF-funded research project in collaboration with UNCO faculty and will provide liaison to our partner institutions. Our research group has a strong post-doctoral mentoring program and an excellent placement record of our researchers.
Excellent communication and organizational skills are required. You will be expected to participate in the mentoring of graduate and undergraduate research assistants. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.
The salary is commensurate with education and experience and the appointment will be on an annual basis with renewal/reappointment possible. This position will begin with a one-year, 12-month appointment with reappointment contingent on performance.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience gained from a graduate Ph.D. program in a Life Science discipline or STEM education field.
Suitable on-the-job training would be equivalent to the educational training and graduate research experience gained in earning a Ph.D. in environmental science.

Candidates should have a strong commitment to undergraduate STEM education and interest in working with a leading group of interdisciplinary STEM educators. Successful candidates will have a mix of some set of the following skills, which will enable the Research Assistants to make unique contributions to the project team.
Life Science and/or STEM Education Research
Assessment of Learning
Experience publishing and presenting research findings
Working collaboratively in teams
STEM education research
Mentoring of undergraduate researchers
Experience in Data Collection and Analysis, such as:
– Machine learning
– Multivariate statistics and computer
modeling
– Quantitative and Qualitative research
methods
– Mixed research methods
