Postdoctoral Fellow - Zachary Ulissi Research Lab, Chemical Engineering-2014692
Description
:
The Department of Chemical Engineering (CHEG) at Carnegie Mellon awarded its first diplomas in 1908. Since then, the department has grown substantially in both stature and reputation, and now offers a bachelor of science degree, a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, a Master of Colloids, Polymers, and Surfaces degree, and a doctor of philosophy.
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Ulissi research lab. Research expertise in computational chemistry or catalysis (DFT) and expertise in python and HPC environments is required in this role.
Example projects include:
Combined catalyst mechanism studies and machine learning methods to search for ideal materials
Development of machine learning methods in catalysis (graph convolution methods, deep reinforcement learning)
Application of machine learning to the discovery of electrochemical or thermal catalyst surfaces
Electronic structure and modeling of complex materials (oxides, disordered, surfaces, etc)
Candidates will also be expected to:
Present at national conferences and build collaborations/networking
Supervise and mentor PhD and MS students
The position is funded for one year with a potential for a second year renewal and is inclusive of competitive salary and benefits. The starting date is flexible, but March 2020 is desired. Applications will be considered until the position is filled. Please upload your detailed CV (including the contact information for two references), a one-page research statement discussing how your background fits the requirements and topics, and a statement highlighting how you would like to contribute to the diversity of the research. Questions prior to application can also be sent to Dr. Zachary Ulissi.
Qualifications:
PhD in Chemical Engineering, or related field
Machine learning background (courses, familiarity with common packages such as tensorflow/pytorch/etc) would help but is not required
A strong research record, documented by recent publications in top-tier conferences and journals
Strong verbal/written communication skills
Highly motivated and creative, proven ability to work in a team oriented research environment
Requirements :
Background check
