Postdoctoral research fellow positions are available in the Boudreau Lab of Genomic and Molecular Medicine – Department of Internal Medicine, Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA.
Project 1: Cutting-edge omics-level research aimed at 1) evaluating the rewiring of microRNA-target interactomes in failing human hearts, 2) identifying SNPs that modulate cardiac disease-related microRNA-mediated gene regulation in heart, and 3) assessing the association of these SNPs with heart failure outcomes in patient cohorts.
Project 2: New research to investigate the physiologic and genomic relevance of the novel mitochondrial microprotein, mitoregulin, in heart failure. Study involves 1) defining the molecular interactors and function of mitoregulin in cardiomyocytes / cardiac tissues, 2) testing the effects of gain- and loss-of-function of mitoregulin in mouse models of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury and heart failure, and 3) assessing the association and impact of mitroregulin polymorphisms on gene expression and risk of adverse outcomes in heart failure patients.
Overall interests in the Boudreau lab include: post-transcriptional gene regulation; microRNAs and RNA-binding proteins; high-throughput identification of transcriptomic regulatory elements; interface of genetic variation with RNA regulation, mechanisms and therapies for cardiovascular, neurological, and metabolic disease; biological and therapeutic applications of gene manipulation; discovery and characterization of novel microproteins.
Positions are available immediately; funding available until at least July 2023.
NIH T32 Post-Doctoral Fellowship funding is also available. This is a great way to begin establishing or further developing your track-record of individual funding.
Please send a CV and a cover letter with a brief statement of research interests and goals.
