Work group:
Institute of Biomaterial Science
Job description:
Postdoc (m/f/d) in Physics/Physical Chemistry
code no. 2020/B 5
The place of employment is Teltow (near Berlin, Germany).
The Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht in Geesthacht, near Hamburg, and in Teltow, near Berlin, conducts materials and coastal research. For further information please refer to: www.hzg.de.
The Institute of Biomaterial Science in Teltow of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht and Berlin Brandenburg Centre for Regenerative Therapies (BCRT) invite applications for a Postdoc (m/f/d) in Physics/Physical Chemistry with a focus on scattering analyses of multifunctional polymeric materials. This is initially a 2-years fixed term contract but will be continued depending on performance.
Your Tasks:
Responsibility for your own projects to elucidate morphological structure-property relationships of polymeric materials the context of the Institute's research. Responsibility for the operation of X-ray instruments (WAXS, SAXS, µ-CT) for the morphological characterization of polymer-based specimens.
Creative environment to design and implement new set-ups for the in situ characterization of stimuli-sensitive soft actuator materials. Active participation in the publication of the results, preparation of patents, and in attracting additional funding. Responsibility as radiation protection commissioner.
Your Profile:
You have Ph.D. in physics or physical chemistry with a broad knowledge in the field of polymer characterization by scattering methods as documented by a significant number of scientific publications. You are excellently linked in the national and international community of scattering sources and will complement the Institutes instrumental infrastructure by proposal writing for gaining access to external infrastructure. You have hands on experiences on WAXS and/or SAXS instruments and a basic understanding of neutron scattering.
You are expected to develop and visualize models of the polymer morphology and link these with data from other characterization techniques. You are familiar with databases and have experiences in programming languages like pythoon.
You are eager to collaborate with material scientists and biologists and researchers from other disciplines to transfer your ideas to applications based research.
Experiences already gained as radiation protection commissioner as well as knowledge in the mechanical characterization of polymers are an asset.
Informal enquiries can be directed to Dr. Oliver Gould, oliver.gould@hzg.de.
For details about the institute, please visit the website at biomaterials.hzg.de.
We offer:
- multinational work environment with ca. 1000 colleagues from more than 50 nations
