Design and conduct studies that use novel biologics to modulate the immune response as a means of preventing type 1 diabetes (NOD) and treating with islet or stem cell-derived beta cells. The research will involve the production of recombinant proteins, generation of humanized mouse models for islet transplantation, and functional qualification of islets using various in vitro assays. Immune monitoring using flow cytometry, RT-qPCR, microarrays, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy. Further duties include, preparation of scientific publications, assistance with grant applications, and provide technical teaching/training support to graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and technicians.
