  At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, BUILD at Aalborg University’s campus in Copenhagen a position as postdoc in Indoor Health Impacts is open for appointment from July 1 2020 or soon hereafter for a period of four years.

  Job description

  The department of Energy Performance, Indoor Environment and Sustainability at BUILD conducts research in the areas Indoor climate, human requirements in buildings, energy efficient buildings, environmental impact of construction and operation of buildings, ventilation and lighting.

  The postdoc will be working in the research group “Indoor Health Impacts”. The research of the group focuses on indoor climate and its impact on the health of the building users. The group has expertise in thermal comfort, air quality, mycology, chemistry, moisture problems and user behaviour. The research is interdisciplinary with the overall purpose of indoor climate being as supportive to health and well-being as possible. The focus is to prevent and remedy mould growth and other moisture-related problems in buildings, to reduce exposure to adverse chemical substances such as Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) and other volatile and semi-volatile substances and to support user behaviour that promotes a healthy indoor climate. The research include experiments in field and laboratories, intervention experiments, demonstration projects, collection of data and experiences together with verification and development of theories and formulas. The group possess experiences and skills to disseminate knowledge to Danish practitioners and building users. Construction practitioners, authorities and other researchers are the primary users of the research results.

  The candidate has to contribute to the ongoing research, the further development of the research group and its expertise in Indoor Health Impacts. This could be both theoretically and though experimental work. The postdoc should contribute to the development of innovative ways to increase the quality of the indoor climate in both new and existing buildings, acknowledging other needs like sustainability and competitive construction activities.

  The position involves limited teaching duties and supervision of master and/or PhD students and contribution to the development of research proposals for accessing national and international funding.

  Qualification requirements Aalborg University is looking for a talented postdoc with strong background in Indoor Health Impacts who

  preferable holds a PhD degree in a relevant engineering, or natural science discipline

  has research experience on Indoor Health Impacts

  has statistical analysis skills

  has publications in reputable journals

  has experience with proposal writing for Danish and/or international funding programs

  It is an advantage if the candidates has experience in

  performing measurements in the field as well as in a laboratory environment

  characterization of indoor air pollution sources

  ways to improve and maintain good indoor climate quality

  indoor climate quality assessments

  humid buildings and fungal growth

  The right candidate should have the ability to work in a team as well as independently and be good at networking. The candidates must be fluent in both speaking and writing Danish or be willing to get this qualification within 2-3 years as writing guidelines to the Danish practitioners is an essential part of the job. Furthermore, excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken) is required for scientific communication.

  Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
