Job Description

We are seeking a postdoctoral research to work on research topics in the general area of Computational Scientist for the improvement of the E3SM Climate Model. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Develop and apply numerical methods suitable to the scientific model + Investigate algorithms targeted for high performance computing environments + Work independently, engage with the team, and collaborate with customers + Lead in the generation of scientific publications and presentations
Required:
+ You have, or are pursuing, a PhD in computer science, engineering, science, or mathematics, with a focus on some aspect of computational science and possess a bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) + A track record of performing research and generating scientific peer-reviewed publications + Experience with numerical methods for solving models that simulate scientific or engineered systems + Able to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level secuirty clearance

+ Desire to perform computational research that is both novel and impactful + Ability to find creative solutions to algorithms and software problems + Experience in aspects of High Performance Computing, such as performance analysis, GPUs, and scalability + Interest or experience in working on climate modeling applications + Interest in developing a research career through publications, presentations, and proposals
Department Description:
The Computational Science Department performs leading-edge software development and technical analysis through physics-based modeling and simulation, using our applications expertise as 'power users' to guide software development at Sandia's Center for Computing Research. Our goal is to establish first-of-a-kind uses of this software in diverse applications of national importance, ranging from nuclear stockpile stewardship to global climate modeling, and spanning multiple disciplines of the physical sciences and engineering. As both developers and analysts, we act as a bridge to set a standard for computational simulation for the broader user community and to incorporate critical feedback from users for continuous improvements in our software development activities and products.

Security Clearance:
