Postdoctoral Position Studying Tumor Inflammation and Immune Tolerance
An NIH grant-supported post-doctoral position is available to study the role of IL-1, IL-37 and inflammasome (multi-protein complex controlling inflammation) in melanoma cells and immune cells. Both IL-1 and IL-37 are activated by inflammasomes, and play important roles in cancer and immune tolerance (Okamoto et at., JBC2010; Dunn et at., Cancer letter 2012; Liu et at., JID 2013; Luo et at., PNAS 2014; Li et al., PNAS 2015; Chen et al., Cytokine 2015; Dinarello et al., EJI 2016; Zhai et al., Oncogene 2017). Our current efforts are directed at understanding the mechanisms of action of inflammasomes and IL-37 in melanoma cells and immune cells. The successful post-doctoral fellow will define the role of inflammasomes and IL-37 in tumor immunology by dissecting intracellular and extracellular signaling pathways, and will develop therapeutics to target their effects. We use various mouse models, human tissues, primary cells and cell lines. We seek a highly motivated individual with a recent PhD degree in Immunology. Individuals with experience in adaptive immunity or tolerance are especially desired. Located in the Denver metro area near the Rocky Mountains, the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus integrates world-class education, research and patient care on one of the nation’s newest health sciences campuses. Specific duties include:
1. Immunological experiments
2. Cellular biological experiments
3. FACS analysis and sorting
4. Planning experiments
5. Analyzing and interpreting data
6. Troubleshooting experiments
7. Summarizing data for a weekly discussion, lab meeting, or a national/international conference
8. Transfection or knockdown/knockout of genes, generation of stable clones.
9. Supervise and teach students
Minimum Requirements:
· Graduation from an accredited college or university with a PhD in Immunology
· Minimum of 3 year(s) experience in Immunology
· Experience in working with small animal models is required.
· Prior successful working experience using a wide range of molecular and cellular biology techniques.
· Ability to handle and process detail-oriented documentation and meet designated research deadlines.
· Excellent in writing, reading and communicating in English.
· The ability to work independently and efficiently within the research lab.
· Must be team-oriented, flexible, and able to communicate with others.
· Computer software, equipment operation, or research technical skills.
· Must be eligible to work on T32 training grant (US citizen or permanent resident) and provide 2-year commitment
