Job Description

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available immediately at Laboratory of Ambient and Wearable Systems (http://claws.eng.ua.edu), Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alabama. The laboratory develops state-of-the-art monitoring solutions and closely collaborates with leading clinical researchers in the areas of nutrition and obesity, rehabilitation, physical activity monitoring, addiction and others.

The research in the lab covers all steps of wearable device design and testing: sensor design, analog and digital hardware design, smartphone software design, human testing, and processing of collected data with signal processing and pattern recognition methodologies.

Desired qualifications include: practical experience with digital logic design using FPGAs, microcontroller-based systems, analog design, video camera interfacing and image processing, biomedical signal processing and pattern recognition. Also desired is familiarity with 3D design software and printed circuit board layout.

The responsibilities of the Research Associate will include involvement in various aspects of wearable device design, supervision of graduate and undergraduate students. The candidate should have good oral and written English communication skills, be capable of independent work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, publish results in academic journals and participate in grant proposal preparation. Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Electrical, Computer or Biomedical Engineering or a related field.
