澳大利亚昆士兰大学基因组学和人类工程学博士后职位
Postdoctoral Research Fellow : Brisbane, Australia
AUSTRALIAN CENTRE FOR ECOGENOMICS (ACE)
THE UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND, BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA
ACE is a dynamic and exciting research environment that brings together leading researchers in molecular microbial ecology and bioinformatics. ACEis located within the School of Chemistry & Molecular Biosciences (SCMB) at The University of Queensland and features modern laboratories with in-house sequencing capacity and high performance computing.
The role: Highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellows are invited to apply for two positions as part of a recently awarded Australian Laureate Fellowship entitled Reconstructing the Universal Tree and Network of Life, led by Professor Phil Hugenholtz. This project focuses on obtaining at least 100,000 high quality draft genome sequences from uncultured microorganisms in metagenomic and single cell genomic datasets, and systematically organising this "microbial dark matter" into natural phylogenetic relationships comprising both vertical inheritance and lateral transfers. This framework will be used to replace the current highly flawed and incomplete classification of microorganisms.
Phylum-centric Position: This position will be primarily focused on phylum-by-phylum comparative genomic analyses, which involves phylogenetic and metabolic reconstruction. A recent example of this type of study can be found here: phylum cyanobacteria.
Lateral Gene Transfer Position: The second position will focus on mapping lateral gene transfers across a conserved vertically inherited core genome tree, and determining potential virus-based routes of transfer using single cell viral tagging. More can be found on the viral tagging approach here: synechococcus viral genome sequence space.
The person: Applicants should possess a PhD and should have an excellent research record relative to opportunity. It is essential that you can demonstrate creativity, productivity and a high level of initiative. Applicants must possess a high level of written and oral communication skills and have a strong desire to develop a successful and highly-productive research career in science.
Remuneration: The positions are full-time, fixed term appointments for two years at Academic Research Level A, with a possible extension of up to two years depending on performance. The remuneration package will be in the range AUD$76,864 – $82,510 p.a (Academic Research Level A), plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package for Academic Research Level A will be in the range AUD$89,930 – $96,536 p.a).
