Research Fellow

University of Birmingham - Institute of Cancer and Genomic Sciences

Professor Constanze Bonifer and Professor Peter Cockerill are seeking an experienced and individual for a postdoctoral position to work within their group on a research project entitled: named “Mechanistic Insights Into Aberrant Transcriptional Programming in Acute Myeloid Leukaemia” which is funded by a Bloodwise program grant. This program of research is being undertaken within the Institute of Cancer and Genomic Sciences in Birmingham.

The post-holder will perform experiments aimed at understanding mechanisms of aberrant transcriptional programming in Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML), (see for example Ptasinska et al., 2014, Cell Reports, Cauchy et al., 2015, Cell Reports). Projects within this program will investigate the molecular basis of AML heterogeneity using high throughput techniques, such as ChIP-seq and DNAseI-seq, as well as the interaction between nuclear oncoproteins and the chromatin landscape. We will also conduct experiments using knock-down with si/shRNAs, genomic engineering using CRSPR technology and the transduction of primary human cells with lenti- or retroviruses

With a PhD in a relevant subject area and extensive laboratory experience in cell and molecular biology, you are expected to have practical experience in cell culture, chromatin immunoprecipitation assays and gene expression analysis. Knowledge of modern concepts of gene regulation and chromatin structure research and experience in high-throughput sequencing analyses as well as flow cytometry.
