An exciting post-doctoral opportunity has arisen in the Wilkinson lab at the MRC Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine, University of Edinburgh, to analyse a novel transmembrane protein that regulates autophagy. The successful applicant will uncover how this protein traffics to autophagosome biogenesis sites and, in a parallel approach, discover the molecular mechanism by which it represses autophagic flux. These aims will be achieved via standard biochemical, molecular and microscopic techniques, building on existing mass spectrometric data that has linked this protein to the core autophagy machinery. Additionally, the job holder will analyse the influence of the protein on pre-autophagosomal site architecture, using high resolution electron and 3D-SIM microscopy.

This is a three-year, BBSRC funded post, available from 1st January 2016, held in the CRUK- and MRC-funded lab of Simon Wilkinson. It will include a three month placement at the University of Bristol, in order to implement correlative electron microscopy approaches, in collaboration with Jon Lane and Paul Verkade.
