摘要:

Postdoctoral Fellow - Metabolism : Toronto, Canada

The Sunnybrook Research Institute (fully affiliated with the University of Toronto) has an immediate opening for an exciting and unique opportunity for a full-time, experienced Postdoctoral Fellow in Glucose Metabolism. The uniqueness of this position is the collaboration between an academic centre and industry.

The incumbent will work in the laboratory of Dr. Marc Jeschke – Professor, Senior Scientist – Division of Biological Sciences, Sunnybrook Research Institute and Director, Ross Tilley Burn Centre (Toronto, Canada). The other aspect is the collaboration with Regeneron Pharmaceuticals (New York, USA). Regeneron is a leader in human antibody technologies and have built a pipeline of antibody drug candidates against both novel and validated drug targets. The collaboration provides an exciting and unique opportunity to work with both academia and industry. The incumbent will be able to leverage the combined capabilities of the two organizations to make significant discoveries that could eventually improve morbidity and mortality of severely burned patients.

The Jeschke laboratory focuses on translational research to attenuate trauma-induced stress, hypermetabolism and inflammation. In particular, the research focuses on the unique metabolic response to burn injury causing a devastating hypermetabolic response for years.

Description
The ideal incumbent is an enthusiastic, highly motivated, organized individual with interpersonal skills who will enjoy collaborating and conducting research in a stimulating environment. The successful candidate will be part of a team conducting independent research to study the effects of glucagon in burn models and its contribution to the hypermetabolic response. In particular, the goal of the research is to elucidate the signaling pathways leading to hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia and breakdown of muscle mass. The results from the studies could potentially lead to the development of novel therapies to improve clinical outcomes of severely burned patients.

Skills and Qualifications:
• PhD (or combined MD/PhD) in Cell Biology or Metabolism
• Experience in some or all of the following techniques: molecular biology, biochemical and analytical techniques, gene expression analysis, in vivo skills and rodent models
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and results-driven
• Strong ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as in a team environment
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Proven track record of publications in high quality journals required (minimum of 3-5 publications); some successful minor grant funding desirable

In the Jeschke lab, we pride ourselves on fostering a fun, exciting, and productive research environment.
Qualified and like-minded candidates are invited to submit a cover letter (brief description of research experience and interest) and CV to: Dr. Marc Jeschke (with “Postdoctoral Fellow – Metabolism” in the subject line).

We thank all applicants for their interest but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

The Sunnybrook Research Institute (or Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre) is committed to providing accessible employment practices that are in compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (‘AODA’). If you require accommodation for disability during any stage of the recruitment process, please indicate this in your cover letter.
