英国桑格研究院招聘宿主和微生物群互动方向博士后
We are now seeking an Advanced/Senior Research Assistant to assist us in designing a novel type of bacterial-based medicine for treating intestinal infections. The successful candidate will be working within a dynamic environment as part of a multi-disciplinary team formed of postdocs, students, bioinformaticians, and computer biologists. This position will focus on establishing protocols for growing and archiving therapeutic bacteria within a state-of-the-art microbial culturing facility.
This is a unique and exciting opportunity to work in a research team led by Dr Trevor Lawley whose research studies the mechanisms that underlie how micro-organisms in the gut, nasopharynx and uro-gential tract interact with their host during periods of health and disease. In particular the team seek to develop novel ways to treat diseases that are associated with unwanted imbalances in the micro-organism population.
The main tasks of this role are to:
- grow and archive human commensal bacteria
- establish protocols to grow bacteria individually and in mixtures
- establish protocols to monitor status of bacteria in mixtures using genomics, proteomics and metabolomics
- working with team members to test bacterial mixtures for safety and efficacy in pre-clinical model
Essential Skills
- Degree in Biological Sciences, or equivalent qualification
- Substantial previous work experience as a technician/research support in a molecular biology laboratory
- Extensive experience of core molecular biology techniques: molecular cloning, DNA/RNA extraction, RT & qPCR (E)
- Experience in mammalian cell culture
- Experience in creating stable transgenic lines
- Experience in viral infection and transfection
- ability to grow bacteria
- ability to extract nucleic acids from biological materials
- ability to handle genomic datasetsability to learn how to operate and maintain equipment
- Demonstrable success in working to deadlines and with numerous priorities
- Excellent organizational, communication skills and work ethic.
- Ability to independently develop, optimize and deploy research support, as a member of a closely collaborative team.
- Good degree of computer literacy; competence with Microsoft office packages
- Confidence to challenge behaviour when laboratory protocols are not adhered to
