Postdoctoral Fellowship in Neurodegenerative disease / Alzheimer : Stockholm, Sweden
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral fellow to study the role of perivascular cells and astrocytes in Alzheimer disease.
The lab uses in vivo fate mapping strategies in combination with different CNS lesion and disease models to investigate the role of perivascular cells and astrocytes for disease progression and regeneration. We discovered a new population of perivascular cells, called type A pericytes, as the source of fibrotic CNS scar tissue following spinal cord injury, see Göritz et al., Science, 2011. Recently we found that parenchymal astrocytes are recruited into a neurogenic program following stroke, see Magnusson/Göritz et al., Science, 2014. The intended project will investigate pericytes and astrocytes as well as their interactions in the context of Alzheimer disease, using several established mouse models.
The project is funded by a EU network grant, which includes the possibility for collaboration and exchange with different partnering labs in Europe.
The Göritz laboratory is offering a creative and international environment. We are part of the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, one of the world’s leading medical universities.
The successful applicant will have a strong background in Neuroscience, preferentially neurodegenerative disease biology. A documented ability to independently carry out experimental research projects is required, as are good communication skills in spoken and written English. Experience with mouse models, imaging techniques, FACS and/or bioinformatics is of advantage.
Stipend is available for an initial period of two years.
